Birth to 1 month

Newborn

The first weeks, held gently.

The first month is a season of learning, for your baby and for you. We see newborns soon after you come home, then again as feeding and sleep begin to settle, so nothing about those early days has to be faced alone.

Our visits are unhurried on purpose. We weigh, measure, and check your baby closely, and we leave plenty of room for the questions that only come up at 3 a.m.

Common questions from parents

How soon should the first visit be?
We usually see newborns within a few days of leaving the hospital, then again around two weeks, so we can track feeding and weight closely.
How do I know my baby is eating enough?
Wet and dirty diapers, steady weight gain, and content stretches between feeds are the signs we watch. We check all three at every early visit.
When should I call about a fever?
For any baby under two months, a rectal temperature of 100.4 F or higher is a reason to call us right away, day or night, through the nurse line.
